Just because I want to know

I'm tired of spouting my opinion, so I'll put on my extravagant Rosalind Russell busy-body hat and stick my nose in your business! Answer what you will (the rest, I'll make up).
  1. What cha' readin'? Are you in the middle of a good book? Do tell.
  2. It's vacation time. Going someplace special or staying close to home? What are you most looking forward to during your time off?
  3. Sick of hearing about anybody? Spill the beans! Who do you wish would take a big dive into oblivion?
  4. Who's bugging you at work? You don't have to name names, just tell me all about the office creep/bully/slothard.
  5. When was the last time you went to a really good restaurant? Tell me about it, hon, and let me live vicariously through your dining experience.
  6. What's your favorite way to waste time (besides reading Shorty PJs)? Can you fool anyone into thinking you're actually working while doing your time-waste thing, or is it blatantly obvious that you're goofin' off?
  7. If you could tell off anybody in the world right now, who would it be and what would be the gist of your verbal smack-down?
  8. The meaning of life. Go on. What do you think?
  9. Who put the bop in the bop-shu-bop-shu-bop? And on that same note, who put the ram in the ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong?
  10. What's under all those bubbles, Joan dear?

1) Ooooh! I'm juggling the new Michael Chabon book and Kurt Anderson's "Heyday". They're both awesome--the Kurt Anderson book is a bit too smarty-pants for its own good, but hey--it's a New York book! My joy in reading these books is compounded by the fact that I shouldn't be taking time to read right now.

2. Going on permanent vacation! California, here we come! Claire just signed the lease on an apartment 1 mile from the beach and 3 miles from school.

3. Ugh. As much as I've obsessed about the Spice Girls in my life, I kind of wish Posh would just dry up and blow away.

4. There's been an outpouring of grief at my departure...so I can't complain... but the new guy in our bay has been dropping some "silent but deadlies" lately.

5. Went with some pals to Udipi Vegetarian Indian restaurant the other day, and it was the best thing I've had in a long time. I hope we get a chance to say goodbye to our favorite places. Claire and I also had some amazing blue crab in Savannah last week.

6. Creating my own Simpsons avatars at the Simpsons movie website...

7. I'm blessed not to have anybody mean in my life right now...I'd have to direct all of my hostility at certain political figures.

8. Ponies are awesome.

9. Hanson put the Mmmm-bop in the bop shoo bop shoo bop, and what people ram with their ding-dongs is none of my business.

10. Spilled nuclear waste from Japan.

1. I'm halfway through The Book Thief by Markus Zusack. Excellent book and thoroughly recommended.

2. Jo & Thomas are going to Pembrokeshire in Wales for the first week of August and we're joining them on the Monday. Looking forward to the break.

3. This might be an unpopular answer but I'm sick of hearing about Princess Diana. It was bad enough when she was alive but you'd think they'd give it a rest now that she's gone.

4. Don't go to work any more but that doesn't stop me being bugged by someone. Self-centred, egoistical, know-all of a bitch.

5. Last Saturday. We've found a great Italian restaurant in Horsell, near Woking, which used to be a cafe in a garden centre many years ago. The rest of the site is now given over to other things and this restaurant provided some of the best food I've had in a long time.

6. My life is one big goofin' off and time waster and I don't fool anybody.

7. It's not quite a telling off, but every time I see Victoria Beckham I want to smack her.

8. The meaning of life is different for everyone. For me it's family, friends and trying to do the best I can.

9. I don't know who they are - but I'm glad they did.

10. Woolly leg-warmers.

1) Stuck on summer fluff beach reading -- James Patterson's Sam's Letters to Jennifer. Just biding my time until Saturday.

2) Vacation's over for me -- though I'm hoping for a day trip or two, maybe to Newport -- big hint. Being a stay-at-home mom, I'm enjoying the kids for the rest of the summer. For me, time off starts when they go back to school. Right now I'm not looking forward to it at all.

3) Sick of hearing about all the bratty young girls in Hollywood. If I never hear another thing about Paris, Nicole or Lindsay, it will be too soon.

4) I don't work outside the home, so I guess I'd have to say someone in my family is bugging me. I'm going to pass on this one.

5) We went to great restaurants every day while on vacation. I suppose the best was "Coconuts," because of the oceanside atmosphere more than anything else. The freshest seafood anywhere served with pizzazz.

6) Favorite way to waste time would be lazing around the pool or people watching at the beach -- I'm usually surprised by what I see. And obviously everyone can tell I'm goofing off.

7) There's only one person in the world I'd tell off right now, and all I'd say is "grow up and get over it."

8) The meaning of life -- I'm still trying to figure that out out (maybe that's the meaning of life?). If you know what it is, please tell.

9) No idea of who put the bop or the ram in, but whomever it was was pretty clever.

Is the photo from "The Women?"

Wow! Very fine responses, my friends. (And thanks for the book recommendations!)

Yes, Elsie - the photo's from The Women (the Norma Shearer version) and one of the best movies ever made. "L'amour, l'amour . . . "

1) Just finished, “Thirty-Three Swoons” by Martha Cooley that took me about four tries to actually get into, but once I did it was really fun… All about doppelgangers, the perfume industry and Russian theater… Holding off on the next book until midnight this Friday where I will be standing in line at Barnes & Noble with all the other “kids”…

2) Not a big one for vacations in the summer with all the crowds everywhere and since I live in NYC, I’m just going to enjoy all those secret little things that we don’t tell the tourists about :-) Plus a lot of ice-cold movie theaters.

3) Paris, Lindsay and Brittany!!!… I would like to slap their mothers!!!

4) All those people who call in and say they are “working from home today” and then there is no answer when you call them with a question.

5) Why are you living vicariously when it’s “Restaurant Week” in NYC!!!... GIT GOIN’ GIRL!!!... I had lunch the other day at Union Square CafĂ©… “Chocolate Ganache Tart with Toasted Almonds and Cherry Sorbet”… YUMMMM

6) I can waste hours on “YouTube”… My latest favorite video is Christopher Walken tap-dancing to hip hop music… He is actually good… Who knew?

7) My theory is that if there is anyone who deserves a verbal smack-down then it is probably a unanimous opinion and they will eventually get what they deserve so I don’t waste my time… Though given the opportunity and a guarantee that I wouldn’t be arrested or shot, there is a certain “world leader” I would like to spend a few moments with.

8) I just make sure that I always have a good time and actually “live life”… I know far too many people who don’t get out there and enjoy themselves and I simply have no patience for them anymore.

9) No idea but I just picture John Travolta dancing :-)

10) Whatever it is, I just wish mine looked as good as hers!!!

Hi Mary - Glad you didn't get steamed!

1. "Lisey's Story" by Stephen King. Only just started it so I don't know if it's any good yet. I can recommend the last book I read which was "A Spot Of Bother" by Mark Haddon. Very good indeed.

2. No plans yet for a proper holiday - we haven't had one yet this year. I'm going to my acting summer school in August, but that doesn't count 'cos it's hard work!

3. Carlos Tevez.

4. Hmmm... All of them, I think. It's very boring there. My last job was dull, but the people were nice. Now the job and the people are dull...

[I hope none of them read this and realise who I am...]

5. The Veerashwami in Regent Street, last year. Fantastic modern Indian food, but very pricey. And fantastic cocktails.

6. Watching DVDs. I'm just finishing season 2 of "NYPD Blue". When that's done, it'll either be season 3 of that, or seasons 3 & 4 of "The Shield".

[Oh, you mean at work?! Oh, well, I just surf the net. No-one's noticed in 3 weeks - though now I've typed this out, I'm sure I'll be having a disciplinary meeting...]

7. I'd tell the MD of Vauxhall Motors what a shoddy service his company gives. Really, they're f*cking awful!

8. Enjoy yourself. Don't hurt anyone. Make some people happy.

9. The Bureau of Prisons? Ah, the 2nd part's much easier... It's Scott Linehan.

10. A wire coat-hanger!

1. Re-reading book 6 of HP ready ...
2. looking at cottages in County Mayo right now. I love sleeping.
3. Not really. I only listen to Radio 4 so just get the news proper.
4. I would have said my boss but she's been in a good mood for a few weeks and we're getting on better (although she suggested that maybe it was me who was at fault.)
5. Our favourite retsuarant is near daughter's home in devon. It's called Jack in the Green, it's a pub restaurant and the food is a good as anywhere I've ever been. We've never had a less than wonderful meal and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for.
6. Blogging. In work I am quite disciplined and don't do it unless I'm really bored; at home I can't fool Husband who thinks I blog more than I do. If that were possible.
7. Tony Blair for taking us into the war with Iraq.
8. To be fulfilled knowing we are accepted by the living God.
9. Mr Bopshu, who wanted to live forever, light up the sky with his name. On the same lines, Mr Ramalam.
10. Just a little bit of fluff.

I work from home now - so I fool around all the time!! (well most)

Reading the book 'Wish You Were Here' by a guy called Mike Gayle. He writes what can best be described as 'Bridgett Jones Diaries' types of stories but for men. This one isnt his best so far. He wrote a fantastic debut book called my Legendary Girlfriend. I'm not convinced tho that girls would get it! It's only if you're a guy that I think you can understand and sympathize with the central characters mindset.

anyway thanks for letting me talk for a bit
