I get around . . .

. . . to yelling at the television and running out of the room whenever the Hoveround commercial comes on. Elderly folks in wheelchairs cavorting to the Beach Boys' "I Get Around" - aaaarrrrgh! I'm amazed they didn't put the old dears in bikinis and surfer shorts and strap surf boards to the backs of their Hoverounds.

I don't even like the song, particularly, but the whole thing is cringingly humiliating for all involved. (Really, Beach Boys - way to sell your souls!)

What can we do to stop the blatant misuse of the music of our teen years for incontinence ads, retirement planning commercials, and wheelchair promos? It's embarrassing. Stop it. Now. Or I'll be forced to create a flatulence medication commercial set to "Louie, Louie." And it won't be pretty.

Here. See for yourself (but don't watch the whole thing, for goodness' sake!):

Don't ads ruin some really good music? But, more to the point...

1. Did he say his name is Tom Cruise (inventor of the Hoveround)?

2. They don't actually hover, do they. I'm very disappointed...

Jo - yes, he said Tom Cruise. Doesn't look much like him, though, does he? I think it's a Scientology-plot, nevertheless.

And, no, Jo and pt, they don't appear to hover as, say, a hovercraft or helicopter. Which reminds me - do you really want to spend your later years hovering? (Or Hoovering, for that matter.)

Winston - oooh! Can't wait!

Well I can't wait. Polyester trousers, lace-up shoes - got those. Next step a hovering wheelchair. Can't wait to get on the M25. Wheeee!!!

Now i'm going to be thinking of that song all the time in Bexhill, as the maturer residents here are using them all the time. (aka the Schumachers as ber an old blog)

darn I dont like that song enough either to be humming it all the time, but it will happen I can see it!
